Hand-dyed Scarves

Sharon L. Anderson was born in Stamford, NY in 1962.  With her Great Grandmother being an accomplished oil painter and her Great Grandfather owning his own photography studio, it was no surprise that art was her favorite subject in school

After graduation from high school in 1980, Sharon chose not to continue her education as she really preferred to work with her hands.  She always loved color and in 1990 she had an opportunity to begin working as an Artist’s apprentice at JVH inc. in Fort Lauderdale, FL.  There she applied custom vinyl lettering on cars, trucks, boats and helicopters.  She mixed & matched paint colors for the artist who did hand painted pin striping and one of a kind graphics on high end automobiles and hot-rods.

In 2000 she returned to NY to start her family in the country.  After having her 1st child she was feeling the need to be creative and do something from home to earn some income.  She began tie dying on cottons, but after she was exposed to silks everything changed.  Now she dyes silks & silk blends with various techniques and types of dye.

She has sold her work at area festivals and events and on Facebook (Sharon’s Silks) and her Etsy shop.  They are also being sold in boutiques in Woodstock and Cooperstown, NY. and the Artisans’ Guild is her first choice to show her work in Oneonta.
