This months artist is:

Adam Scudder

Opifex Ligni Esse, in Latin, means to be a woodworker, or to create in wood.
Adam Scudder is a third generation craftsman born and raised in the Catskill Mountains of upstate New York. He grew up on a small family farm, learning those little things you can’t appreciate until you leave home. As his father did, he set out on his own to learn the craft. He went through SUNY Delhi’s Cabinetry program, and after doing NYC based cabinet work for a while, went to a school in Maine for an intensive furniture making program. Adam completed the Carpentry program at Delhi next, then spent a year and a half in Huntington on Long Island, where he worked in a couple high end cabinet shops. Now at 25 years old Adam is a well skilled builder working out of his studio furniture shop in Maryland, NY. He builds anything, so long as it’s wood. Even in carpentry Adam applies the same attention to detail, same focus of skills, as he does when building a custom piece of heirloom furniture.
“I like to build; to make something fine from rough parts, if it’s a house of studs or a chair of tapered and bent laminations.” Adam likes that custom work can require innovative solutions and nontraditional materials to meet design criteria. Most of Adam’s furniture can be described as a Rustic/Contemporary mix, or his personal favorite, a blend of Shaker and Arts and Crafts with a little Asian influence.
